Nimrat Kaur is the daughter of Bhupender Singh and Avinash Kaur. She has a younger sister by the name of Rubina Singh. Nimrat’s father, Major Bhupender Singh was an army officer. In January 1994 he was a part of the team that was responsible for maintaining the Jawahar Tunnel. Her father was abducted and killed six days later.

While the painful memory of her father, the rest of the family soldiered on. Nimrat, her sister, and her mother moved to Noida where Nimrat’s grandparents used to stay. Nimrat’s mother, Avinash Kaur, was a psychologist and played a major role in helping her and her sister, heal from their loss. Later on, Nimrat’s sister Rubina also became a psychologist.
